TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Federal officials have sent investigators to the site of a grain elevator collapse that killed two workers in central Kansas.
Two grain bins collapsed Thursday at the Agco Inc. elevator in Russell while workers were unloading a truck. Twenty-one-year-old Max Greve of Hays and 19-year-old Sean Banks of Russell died after being buried by grain.
Investigators from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration were gathering information at the site Friday.
OSHA's area director, Judy Freeman, says an initial check of records turned up no complaints or previous accidents at the elevator. State agriculture officials have inspected the elevator's financial records but aren't required to conduct safety checks.
