The Minnesota Grain and Feed Association, which represents the country grain elevator and feed mill industry in Minnesota, elected its leadership for 2010 at the recent 103rd Annual Meeting, held in conjunction with the MGFA Annual Convention and Trade Show. Nearly 500 Minnesota country grain elevator and feed mill managers, owners, co-op farmer directors and exhibitors came together in Mankato, to participate in a 100 exhibit trade show and to hear from numerous speakers covering an array of pertinent industry topics. The convention included presentations by John Johnson, CEO of CHS, Inc., Matthew Rose, CEO of BNSF Railroad and Congressman Tim Walz.
The delegates at the MGFA Annual Meeting re-elected Larry Olsen of Jackson, Lyle Hovland of Rothsay and Brad Stenzel of Matawan (New Richland) to 3 year terms on the Board of Directors. Wes Cole of Hanley Falls was chosen as president, Dave Reiffenberger from Bellingham as vice-president, Lyle Hovland from Rothsay as secretary and Larry Olsen from Jackson as treasurer.
The country grain elevator and feed mill industry in Minnesota employs over 9,000 citizens in over 600 communities around the State. The grain elevators handle over 2.6 billion bushels of grain annually and the feed mills manufacture nearly 6 million tons of feed annually. In total, the industry pays over $98 million in combined payroll, property and income tax annually, continuing its role as a key economic driver in rural Minnesota.
